Oikos: Lake Walk

This ephemeral installation was created to mimic the earth’s strata and texture, revealing organisms uncovered by receding water and erosion. The audience was invited to actually “dig” through piles of sand at the base of the wall painting in which hundreds of small, ancient-looking clay shell-forms were buried. Just like collecting beach treasures, gallery visitors were encouraged to bring their pocket-sized finds home in order to remember the installation. The wooden slab bench offered a place of contemplation with a long view of the installation allowing for a more integrated and intimate experience with the work.
